Child Writing Activity

Fine Motor & Writing Skills Program

As children grow, writing challenges can show up in different ways, including fatigue, slow written output, discomfort, frustration, avoidance, or difficulty organizing and expressing ideas on paper. WonderTree’s Writing Skills Program for older children and young teens is designed to support writing ease, fluency, and functional written expression in a supportive, strengths-based environment.

Fine Motor & Writing Skills Program

Help your child build confidence, comfort, and independence with writing and fine motor tasks before the school year begins.

WonderTree’s individualized Fine Motor & Writing Skills Program is offered in person at our Orangeville location and is supervised by a licensed Occupational Therapist and delivered by an Occupational Therapy Assistant.

The Fine Motor & Writing Skills Program is an individualized summer skill building program designed to support children and youth who would benefit from help with fine motor development, handwriting, writing comfort, and written output. The goal is to help each child or youth build skills that support confidence, independence, and ease in daily writing and fine motor tasks. The program uses activities and principles informed by Handwriting Without Tears, while still being individualized to the child or youth’s needs, goals, and current skill level.

This program is appropriate for children and youth ages 4 to 14 who may benefit from support with:

  • Printing or letter formation

  • Pencil grasp or pencil control

  • Hand strength and fine motor coordination

  • Writing endurance or reduced fatigue

  • Writing fluency and written output

  • Pre-writing or early writing readiness

  • Cursive, typing, or alternative writing tools

  • Fine motor skills for daily tasks outside of writing

We offer two different programs depending on the youths age:

9 - 14 year olds

Writing Fluency & Fine Motor Skills

This program is designed for youth who may already have established printing patterns, but need support with comfort, fluency, efficiency, fatigue, typing, cursive, or alternate writing strategies.

Foundations for Printing & Fine Motor Skills

This program is a great fit for children who are still building the foundations for writing and classroom fine motor tasks, such as pencil control, hand strength, letter formation, and fine motor coordination.
